About Amy
Hello! Hola! Mabuhay! I'm Amy Lou and I thank you for visiting my blog.
I'm a first time expectant mom living in the DC area temporarily before my family and I head off to live in the Phillipines for a few years. We're a foreign service family- Me, my husband Noel, my step-daughter Lina, and soon-to-be baby Ben. We also have 2 cats that frequently make appearances in my posts- Mr. Thomas Jefferson and Lady Liberty.
Before moving to the DC area, Noel and I were in El Salvador for 2 years. We met there while I was working in the Peace Corps and he was down there for work in the capitol. I lived in a poor, rural community in the department of San Vicente doing volunteer work mainly focused on youth development.
Click here to read my blog Hola El Salvador about my time in the Peace Corps and El Salvador.
Noel and I met when he decided to volunteer to host Peace Corps Volunteers for Thanksgiving in 2010. When he called to talk about the plans, we hit it off on the phone before we even met. Then we met in person for Thanksgiving and we've been together ever since! We got engaged on 11-11-11 and were had a beautiful intimate destination wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in the summer of 2012.
I was a middle school teacher before I left for the Peace Corps. Teaching was a challenging but great experience for me. I continue to be drawn to working with youth in education, and am working part-time at Lina's elementary school, as much as my very pregnant body will allow me to.
I grew up in Sugar Land, Texas, went to high school in Knoxville, TN and then returned to Houston and completed degrees in Spanish and English from the University of Houston.
I never have really known exactly what I want to be "when I grow up" but I always knew I wanted to be a mom and to see the world. Well, not only am I doing that now, I get to do it all with the best husband! Who knows where our global nomad family will go in the years to come- but we will always have each other, and it is sure to be one interesting adventure. I'll figure out the rest along the way!
